Monument To The Discoveries Side View

Description

The monument was originally built for the Portuguese Trade fair, but was rebuilt in it's current location on the banks of the River Tagus, and inaugurated 9th August 1960, although not finished until October of that year. It stands 52 metres (171 feet) tall with a depth of 20 metres (66 feet). The architects Cottinelli Telmo, Leopoldo de Almeida and Cristino da Salva designed the structure.
